This position is located in the Avionics Intermediate Shop (AIS) of the Avionics Maintenance Branch. Its purpose is to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, align, modify, calibrate and certify the Computer/Inertial, Displays/Indicators, Processors/Pneumatic, and Radio Frequency test stations, and their peripherals, support equipment and associated subsystems necessary to support the aircraft systems at the intermediate level and to the stations to test, troubleshoot, modify, align, repair, maintain, and certify F-16 avionics systems and major components of these systems.
EXCEPTED POSITION: Alabama Air National Guard membership is required.POSITION STATUS: NON-MERITLOCATION: 187TH FW,MONTGOMERY, ALSELECTING OFFICIAL: MSgt M. BECHARD Must be U.S. Citizen. Must maintain Military Membership for continued employment. Maximum Military Grade: SSgt Compatible Military Assignment: 2A0XX, 2A3XX Must possess or be able to obtain an ASVAB Score of 70 in Electronics. Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer is mandatory.
ALABAMA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED:This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Alabama National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Alabama National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION FOR ALABAMA AIR NATIONAL GUARD POSITIONS:
AREA 1: All permanent Alabama Air National Guard civilian excepted technicians currently employed.
AREA 2: All other members of the Alabama Air National Guard.
AREA 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the Alabama Air National Guard.
1) On a day-to-day basis, analyze performance, tests, inspects, troubleshoots, identifies and isolates malfunctions, disassembles, modifies or repairs, reassembles and aligns the test stations and their associated peripherals. Considers complex interrelated variables arising from a mix of computer hardware and software, switching unit measurements and stimulus system (SUMSS), and special purpose test subsystems.
2) Modifies and updates avionics support equipment and support software according to applicable technical publications. Analyzes program data and determines if the criteria is sufficient to provide adequate testing and troubleshooting.
3) Certifies, calibrates and aligns the assigned avionics computerized test station or stations and support equipment to the appropriate shop standard of the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL), using special and standard tools and procedures.
4) Connects associated testing equipment to interface the test station system to the aircraft system to facilitate maintenance/repair of line replaceable units (LRU) from the control, inertial navigation, malfunction analysis and recording equipment systems. Determines whether failures are caused by the unit under test (UUT), the test station, or the test program.
5) Analyzes performance and isolates malfunctions of aircraft line replaceable unit (LRUs). Uses computer and manual test stations and equipment to determine operational condition of components of aircraft systems including attack control, navigation radar, electro-optical and sensor, weapons delivery, analog and digital computer, threat warning, flight control and air data, and flight data recorder systems.
6) Receives newly developed and/or extensively modified programs from the engineer for specific items of equipment. Investigates discrepancies, incompatibilities, and anomalies in test programs and automated fault isolation procedures to determine the true nature of problems encountered.
7) Provides hands-on training instructions to lower grade personnel concerned with repair of computer controlled automatic test equipment, line replaceable units and aircraft integrated systems.
8) Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Inspector General (IG) inspections, and Unit Effectiveness Inspections and mobility and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a team member on a board to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
9) Complies with safety, fire, security, and house keeping regulations. Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained.
10) Processes and accounts for due in from maintenance (DIFM) supply assets. Documents maintenance repair actions and man-hour accounting on maintenance forms and computer systems.
11) Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL
Experience: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of electronic theories and practices to identify, isolate and repair malfunctions in one or more complex integrated systems where knowledge of the entire system is necessary to interpret error data and trace back through a number of units of the system to locate deficiencies. Thorough knowledge of principles of digital and analog circuits, electro-mechanical devices, solid state devices, digital techniques, synchro/servo operation and integrated circuit theory. Ability to interpret and trace schematics, logic and wiring diagrams and use a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
SPECIALIZED
Experience: Must possess at least 18 months experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic integrated systems equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic integrated systems equipment. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1) A working knowledge of the Abbreviated Test Language for All Systems (ATLAS) and programming principles sufficient to analyze aircraft avionics equipment and computerized test stations software and software problems and to work with engineering personnel to correct them.
2) A comprehensive knowledge of electronics, software controlled test stations and their peripherals, test results, a variety of test equipment, self-test programs and technical data containing schematic diagrams, signal and data diagrams, test procedures, program information, and mathematical formulas to identify and isolate malfunctions and determine if a malfunction is in the program, the UUT or the test station.
3) A thorough knowledge of the interactions of the electronic systems that are interfaced with the test stations (e.g., radar, fire control, instrument, flight control, inertial navigation, malfunction analysis and recording equipment systems).
